5–7 March 2021, Rada Koželj – Greedy, greedy, greedy I am!
The first exhibition in the new space of Lateral Roma, located in the Roman neighbourhood of Appio-Latino, brings together four sound works by artists Tobias Koch, Rada Koželj, Double Goocher Shop and Semuel Lala. Each artist’s work can be heard for three days, inviting visitors to concentrated listening sessions.
In her work “Greedy, greedy, greedy I am!,” Rada Koželj sings short melodies with improvised lyrics, an idea that emerged during the first lockdown as an immediate solution to a need for physical expression. Recorded as sequences in her home, the jingles reference both opening songs of the cartoons the artist grew up with and the advertising jingles that were broadcasted during their commercial breaks. The jingles are so fleeting they seem to impact us before we are conscious of them. Their apparent intimacy, though, lingers longer, a clash between a pretty world of flowers and stars and love with lyrics such as “I began to know how to sting.”
Read some thoughts on the exhibition here. Listen to Greedy, greedy, greedy I am! below, headphones are a must!
