17 March - April 20 2023: Monotipi - a workshop curated by Gaia Vincensini
Monotipo is curated by visual artist Gaia Vincensini and presents an introduction to monoprint on fabric: a printing workshop followed by a social gathering.
The first part will take place at La Carrozzeria print shop in Rome. Monotype is Italy’s only original printing technique, invented by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione around 1648. Printing is done by transferring a drawing from an inked plate onto a sheet of paper using an intaglio press. As the term implies, each work is unique as the print is printed in a single copy. On this occasion, instead of using sheets of paper, participants will be invited to print with oil-based ink on provided clothing and personalize the images individually in groups. At the end of the day, the result will be presented at the space Lateral Roma, and a drink will be offered for a social moment.
The workshop outcomes will remain installed at Lateral Roma from March 31 to April 9, 2023, as a backdrop for an open-ended program and gathering space throughout that week. More soon!
Gaia Vincensini (1992) lives and works between Geneva and Paris. In 2016 she graduated from HEAD. In her work, she creates narratives exploring the value systems shaping art and society. She won the Manor and Kiefer Hablitzel I Göhner art awards in 2021 and completed a nine-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2020. Her work has been exhibited at MAMCO and Forde in Geneva, at the Swiss Institute in New York, at Maison d’Art Bernard Anthonioz in Nogent-sur-Marne, at Galleria Martina Simeti in Milan, and at FIAC with her gallery Gaudel de Stampa. In Rome, she develops a series of works that explores the relationship between contemporary divinities and human beings.
